Descrizione
"The technique of interpreted crumplage (froissage, 1964) prove to be a very important discovery: the crumpled paper is straightened out and wiped with india ink so that its creases stand out; the painter discovers hidden images in the resulting "drawing" and fixes them with a pen. Finally, he usually colours them with water-colours. [...] Froissage is especially suited to him, for it begins with a phisical act, crumpling the paper, and just as his text on Zámostí he realized that "the street paln of Zámostí is containted in the lines of your hand" so now he was aware that "in a certain sense, the drawing on the paper corresponds to the creases in my hand and is conditioned by a similar chiromantic regularity." [...] Literature is echoed only in their titles, originally simply written below, but later taken as well from the material chosen, which was now often large coloured advertisements. [...] Novak's art is also generically romantic, and his case as well, this romanticism is balanced by humor. His alchemages and collages often use romantic motifs and at the same time, they gradate and make ironic their lyrical or dramatic aspects." - Jindřich Chalupecký, "The heretical Surrealism of Ladislav Novak"
