"It has been said that Fluxus is very much tied to experimental collective experiences. "Musique sextronique" as a score is clearly and poetically expressed this way. Note the references to performance actions written into the score, originally for Paik and Charlotte Moorman, but to be performed anywhere, alone or with others using a variety of performance methods. The notation regarding Moorman ("take off clothes?") is markedly discrete, almost invisible on the overall score. Opera Sextronique (1967) was his and Moorman’s solution. In this cello composition in four parts, performed in New York, Moorman was to play while wearing an electric bikini made for her by Paik, topless with a full-length skirt, bottomless in a football jersey and, finally, fully nude playing a fake bomb turned into a cello.
