"[...] I moved to Sorrento , which is a very beautiful city, full of folklore, and very cosmopolitan. [...] I lived in a fisherman's grotto, very large, beautiful and close to the sea and that was where I painted. [...] I became friend with the fisherman, I did drawings on their boats, we'd build monuments on the beach with cardboard boxes piled one on top of the other, and them from behind I'd lift up the children, and things like that. THen I also organized processions, since the children of the fishermen were still a little pagan. Processions in boats, with music, and we dressed a little girl like Madonna. At a certain point we threw her into the sea and she began to swim." - Giuseppe Desiato, "Autobiografia"
